Please post the hardware ID for the PCI Unknown device you are missing the driver for. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the unknown device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. To verify that your driver is working, you should see a difference in the following pictures after plugging the CH340 to a USB port. To check that the CH340 enumerates to a COM port, you can open the device manager. You can click the Start or ⊞ (Windows) button and type 'device manager to quickly search for the application.

• Select the driver your printer is already using, as shown in the printer’s properties window, and click “Next.” Select “Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended)” and click “Next.” This ensures the new printer device is using the same port and printer driver as the original printer device.
• You safely remove the USB device from the USB port. You reconnect the same USB device or a different USB device to the same USB port on the hub. In this scenario, the computer does not detect the USB device. Note This issue affects USB 2.0 hubs and USB 2.0 components in USB 3.0 hubs. This issue occurs because the USB port is disabled.

This tiny driver utility quickly searches your system for connected hardware. It identifies many different connected devices and also includes hardware which has been marked as 'Unknown' in the device manager.

It gives you a little bit more information about a certain device so that you can find the proper drivers required to get it up and going in Windows.

Unfortunately when we tested an older scanner we thought was heading to the dustbin, it was configured that our old scanner would probably never work any newer version of Windows.

In short, this is a small tool which may help you figure out whether there are drivers available for your potentially outdated device.
